Roman Empire Era

The Roman Empire era was betwen the years 27BC and AD 476. It was located in Rome, Italy. Rome was also the capital. It was a very huge city full of enormous constructions, religious temples (the Romans adored many Gods), market places, and many public squares. Wherever you walked you could find beautiful statues of their Gods. They had a main piazze where everyone gathered to hear the speeches from the Caesar or to celebrate their religious celebrations. Their more important construction is the Colosseum, a place that held combats between gladiators and between prisoners and ferocious animals like lions or tigers. The people gathered in the Colosseum the weekends to watch these combats. However, this was a very bloody spectacle where the ones that participated just suffered.
The city was always full of happiness and you could find many ways of entertaining yourself wherever you went. The weather in Rome is really nice because it's temperate. If the days were hot you could refresh yourself in the fountains.
Education and scientific development was very increased during this era.
However, since that time, the government that was formed by patricians was a very corrupt organization that only acted for their own benefit.
I would really had liked to live in that era. I only would had cancelled the combats because they attempted against the human integrity and eliminated the corruption that since that time already existed because corruption is a fact that spoils all societies, and maybe the Fall of the Roman Empire was related in some way to that corruption. But behind that, I wouldn't had changed anything because it was a very nice era that could had accomplished all my needs.

Questions From Page 27 "Harrison Bergeron"

2. Harrison's rebellion reveals he's really intelligent because he managed to escape from jail and got rid of all the mental handicaps he had, because according to the story he had more mental handicaps that anyone else since he had huge headphones and thick spectacles that made him half-blind and shook him very often and he was considered as extremely dangerous due to his supernatural intelligence. It also reveals that he's very big and that he has an extraordinary strength because he broke all the junk handicaps that covered his body to make him less graceful as well as the mental handicaps, the earth trembled just because of his steps. It also reveals that he's a boy that believes in freedom and that wants to change that fool government with his actions motivating others to be the way they want, as how happened with the musicians. He's also kind of agressive because of his rude behaviour.

3. I feel sorry for them because they don't have idea of what happened because the government has washed up their minds and they really don't know what happens to Harrison due to Hazel's little intelligence and George's buzzes that didn't allow him to think. I also feel sorry for them because they will still be living thinking their son is alived when he is already dead and he was killed brutally.

5. Vonnegut may be trying to explain that it's inhuman to try to make all people equal because everybody is different and that's what makes special human race, the different abilities each has like strenghth, ability to dance, etc. It may also be trying to explain that sometimes governments harm other people (hidding it, and making it pass as good) to achive personal interestings. I think Vonnegut may be criticizing governments as the Cuban or Russian indirectly. It shows how technology can also be used to harm and to destroy societies.

The Interlopers

The interlopers is a short story that talks about an ancient conflict about a property between two families. This problem starte when the two families claimed the property but finally one won it. This problem has been taken up to the third generation of the families, up to the grandchilds. The leader of each family wishes to kill the other one and they quarrel often getting into the other's property. One night Ulrich and his men got out to the forest no to hunt game but to hunt Georg, the leader of the other family. They walk into the forest when finally Ulrich and Georg found each other, both armed, but they didn't shoot they just stared each other and while this happened a thunder struck a tree and it fell down and trapped both men. They start arguing about who will kill the other first when their rspectively men arrived and how they will kill the other one. The time passed and Georg took some wine he had and he felt pity when he saw Ulrich and offered him some wine, but he rejected it. Then, Georg said Ulrich that if his men arrived first he wouldn't kill him and he will asked them to free Ulrich first because he was tired of that fool quarrel, he offered Ulrich to be friends. Ulrich said he was also tired about the quarrel and he accepted to be his friend. Now the quarrel was solved. Finally, one of them saw some shadows and he thought they were the other's men but when they got closer he saw they weren't no one's men...they were wolves.
I liked this short story because it has a surprise ending that is not often used in stories that is the possible dead of the protagonists. I also think it's original how the author develops the story up to the point where two life-enemies become friends and at the end they both seemed to die eaten by wolves, not many authors make his main character died and I liked that really much because it breaks the stereotype that almost all stories have. It is also ironic how the two characters broke with the old quarrel that their families had and they became friends but when this happened they probably died eaten by wolves, so the quarrel won't finish because their sons will never know what happened and they will still fight. Both Ulrich and Georg are dynamic characters becase they totally changed their way of thinking about each other. Probably many people don't like the story because of the ending but I think it's good to break with the "And they lived happy forever..." and all the sturctures that are always used in novels or stories. The author managed very well to avoid foreshadowings in this story because i don't think anyone guessed its ending.
